"Ama Namin" Controversy
This timeline explains how a three-minute rock rendition of "Ama Namin" (The Lord's Prayer) by Filipino drag artist Pura Luka Vega, performed in drag Jesus attire, ignited widespread controversy and blasphemy accusations, leading to multiple legal complaints and ongoing court cases examining freedom of expression versus religious offense.
Drag and Devotion
During the Elephant Party after the 2023 Pride PH event, Pura Luka Vega (PLV) performed a rock rendition of "Ama Namin" in drag resembling Jesus Christ. The song is readily available on YouTube remixed by another local artist. Attendees at the party reacted positively based on the circulating video, with some even singing along to the prayer.
Performance Sparks Outrage

The performance sparks outrage among conservative groups and religious sectors in the Philippines, including celebrities and politicians.
Persona Non Grata
Multiple municipalities and cities (17 in total) including Manila, and Cebu City, pass resolutions declaring Pura Luka Vega persona non grata (unwelcome person).
The declarations hold no legal penalty but signal strong public condemnation.

PLV Attends Court in Drag
Across different cities, multiple legal complaints were filed by various religious groups and institutions. The image below captures PLV attending a court hearing related to complaints from pastors representing three Christian churches. PLV noted not receiving the subpoena for the preliminary investigations in at least one instance. Despite some case dismissals, several others have moved forward in the legal process.

First Arrest (yes, there's a Second One)
PLV is arrested under Article 201 of the Revised Penal Code and the Cybercrime Prevention Act, citing "immoral doctrines, obscene publications and exhibitions."
This particular case was filed by select members of Hijos Del Nazareno (group of dedicated male devotees of the Black Nazarene) through the Manila City Prosecutor's Office.
Release on Bail
Released from police custody after posting bail, with support from community donations. A fund-raising event titled, "NKKLK: A Fundraising Show for Pura Luka Vega!" was organized and led by Naia (a fierce and fabulous Drag Queen, and a dear friend) on October 8, 2023.
Looming Cases Ahead
A total of 7 cases were filed, some have since been dismissed, notably the one in Tacloban City. Additionally, a group of social media broadcasters pursued charges under Article 113 of the Revised Penal Code. We paid the required bail for this particular case, only for it to be immediately dismissed due to the plaintiff's non-appearance in court.

Second Arrest
PLV is arrested again by the Manila Police District, from complaints filed by several church groups under the Philippines for Jesus Movement (Quezon City).
Estimate cost of total bail and legal fees by then amount to about 1 million pesos.
